Sartre was wrong.

The Magna Carta, Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird, the Kyoto Protocol, Fleming’s penicillin, Bach’s cello suites, indoor plumbing, FDR’s Tennessee Valley Authority and Social Security, the lever, Einstein’s General and Special Relativity, national parks, Newton’s calculus, money, MLK’s marches, and the telescope … all of these are examples of remarkable departures from chaos, when heroic human creativity conjured order upon the world in ways that would inspire, energize, and equip many generations.

All of these accomplishments are significant solely by virtue of their effect on others. To rise above background noise and achieve significance, your life must inspire, empower, and resonate with our Brothers and Sisters.

Other people are not hell. They are our only hope for significance.
